The paper slip left by postal carriers to indicate a missed package delivery is arguably the most common form of communication between the United States Postal Service and its customers. As part of The Public Design Lab, CitizenR&D created a hypothetical redesign that focuses on the end-user rather than on the USPS’s back-end systems. The solution demonstrates how a mundane information tool can support the USPS brand as effectively as advertising.

The current missed delivery slip was designed to support back office operations.

The redesigned form is clear, conversational, and prioritizes the needs and understanding of the customer.
